Dr Mark H Sullivan
Dr. Mark Sullivan studied biochemistry at Oxford, and completed his PhD at the Royal Free Hospital, before moving to the Hammersmith Campus of Imperial College London where he is a senior lecturer in biochemistry in the IRDB.
His research interests focus on the feto-maternal interface of human pregnancy, and therefore includes the biochemistry of the placenta, decidua and fetal membranes. These tissues cannot be considered in isolation as cross-talk between them, as well as the influence of diverse factors including oxygen tension and micro-organisms, will determine whether pregnancy progresses normally.
Dr. Sullivan is also involved in the organisation of and teaching on a number of educational programmes within the Faculty of Medicine. Undergraduate courses include the BSc in Biomedical Sciences, the MBBS for medical students and a specialist course in Reproductive & Developmental Sciences for both groups of undergraduates. Postgraduate courses are the MSc in Reproductive & Developmental Biology and the graduate entry programme to medicine. He has recently been awarded a Fellowship of the HIgher Educational Academy.
