Division of Experimental Medicine
Newsletter - Celebrating Integrated Success
We could blog and Twitter (maybe one day we'll invent a new medium) but we have decided to stick with the tried and tested device of communicating key messages and successes in one epistle. At least we aren't using pigeons.

Professor Martin Wilkins, Head of Experimental Medicine
Professor Martin Wilkins is Head of Experimental Medicine and the Director of CPG-6.
Our Centres
Centre for Haematology
The Centre for Haemotology is led by Professor Jane Apperley, and is based mainly on the Hammersmith Campus. The research interests span a wide range, as is appropriate to a relatively large group; they include:
- leukaemia, especially chronic myeloid leukaemia
- lymphoma
- myeloma
- abnormalities of fetal haematology
- haemophilia
- thrombophilia
Drug Discovery Centre
The Drug Discovery Centre is a cross-faculty resource, hosted by Medicine and based in the Biochemistry building at South Kensington. The mission is to translate the wealth of Imperial’s healthcare-related research into drug discovery projects and ultimately new medicines.
Centre for Pharmacology and Therapeutics
The Centre for Pharmacology and Therapeutics is led by Professor Martin Wilkins and comprises two units: Acute Medicine and Pharmacology and Therapeutics. It is based mainly on the 5th floor of the Burlington Danes building, Hammersmith Hospital.
Centre for Pathology
Histopathology, the study of disease in tissue, provides a visual aspect to translational medicine by investigating cell-cell interaction within tissue sections by H&E sections and immunohistochemistry to identify cellular detail.
Sir John McMichael Centre
The Sir John McMichael Centre is a dedicated early phase clinical studies unit on the Hammersmith campus.
Clinical Programme Group 6 (CPG6)
The Division of Experimental Medicine maps onto Clinical Programme Group 6 (CPG6) – Clinical and Investigative Sciences – within the NHS Trust. Its mission is to facilitate translational medicine.
As such it takes clinical and scientific responsibility for the Sir John McMichael Centre. The Division co-ordinates the resources of CPG6, namely Imaging, Molecular Pathology, Pharmacy, Clinical Trial Methodology and Research Governance, to form a Centre for Translational Medicine.
